What we do

Tax,
done properly.

Tax compliance is one thread. Planning and advisory work make it useful. Trust, estate, and representation are how we serve clients across the long arc of a life. All four threads run through one firm. All four are signed by a partner.

We work across the full lifecycle of an engagement, from a first conversation through a filed return through the years that follow.

What we do

Six practice areas. One bench.

All four partners bring depth across every engagement. Most clients start with planning, where the work that moves the number lives, and grow into the rest as life and business get more complex.

01 · Tax Planning

The work that moves the number. Almost all of it happens before December 31st.

Compliance is the floor. Planning is where the actual numbers move. Planning clients get a mid-year projection in July, a strategy meeting in September, and a December close-out, so April becomes a non-event. The decisions that matter happen on the calendar, not at the deadline.

  • Multi-year projectionsWhere the next three years are heading, and which moves change the trajectory.
  • Roth conversion modelingBracket-by-bracket conversions, IRMAA thresholds, and 5-year rule sequencing.
  • Capital-gains harvestingLoss harvesting, basis stepping, and gain harvesting in low-income years.
  • Retirement plan designSolo 401(k), SEP, defined benefit: the right vehicle, properly sized.
02 · Individual & Family Tax

For people whose lives don't fit on a 1040-EZ.

A return is a story told in numbers. We read it carefully: the move from California, the new K-1, the RSUs that vested in December, the rental property that’s finally cash-flow positive. The return we hand back should match the year you remember. Every individual return is reviewed by a partner before signing.

  • Federal & multi-state returnsAMT, NIIT, passive activity rules, and state-by-state reciprocity.
  • Equity comp & RSU planningISO/NSO exercises, 83(b) elections, RSU vest forecasting, AMT triggers.
  • Rental & investment propertySchedule E, cost-segregation candidates, 1031 exchange coordination.
  • High-net-worth complexityMultiple K-1s, alternative investments, private fund interests, deferred comp.
03 · Business Tax

For owners who'd rather build the business than the bookkeeping.

Most businesses don’t need a different return every year. They need a CPA who knows the entity, the owners, the rhythm of the year. We prepare returns across every common entity form (S-corporations, partnerships, LLCs, and C-corporations), at every stage from first filing through eventual sale. We coordinate with your bookkeeper (or recommend one) and tell you what to do differently next year.

  • 1120-S, 1065 & 1120S-Corp, partnership, and C-Corporation returns with full K-1 preparation.
  • Entity selection & conversionS-Corp, partnership, C-Corp, modeled side-by-side so the choice is defensible.
  • Reasonable compensationDefensible salary analysis for S-Corp owners. The IRS’s favorite audit topic.
  • Multi-state nexus & PTETWhere you owe, where you don’t, and pass-through entity tax elections.
04 · Business Advisory

Strategic counsel for owner-operators at every stage of the business.

We sit at the table for the startup conversation and the first entity filing, we’re there as complexity grows, and we stay through the succession discussion. Advisory work runs alongside compliance: owner compensation, distribution policy, cash flow, and the long-horizon decisions that compound over years.

  • Entity design & structureThe right vehicle for what you’re building, and when to convert as it changes.
  • Owner compensation policySalary, distributions, and benefits balanced against tax efficiency and risk.
  • Cash flow & financial reviewQuarterly review of the numbers and what they’re telling you about the business.
  • Exit & succession readinessPreparing the business and the owner for sale or family transition.
05 · Trust, Estate & Succession

The work that follows a life well built, and a business well run.

Trust, estate, and succession is an area where institutional depth is becoming harder to find. We’ve spent careers in this work and built the firm so it would never be the first thing cut when staffing got thin. We prepare fiduciary returns, advise trustees, model wealth-transfer scenarios, and sit with attorneys and family for succession and exit planning.

  • Form 1041 fiduciary returnsSimple trusts, complex trusts, grantor trusts, and estate income tax returns.
  • Form 706 & 709Estate and gift tax returns, including portability elections and valuation coordination.
  • Wealth-transfer planningAnnual exclusion strategies, lifetime exemption use, and grantor-trust techniques.
  • Business successionSale to insider, sale to third party, family transition, modeled to compare.
06 · IRS & State Representation

When the letter arrives, we open it.

All four partners hold the practitioner credentials to represent you before the IRS and state taxing authorities. Between us we have handled correspondence audits, in-person examinations, collection cases, and appeals across many states. You sign a Form 2848 and we take it from there. You won’t speak to the agent.

  • CP-2000 & notice responseUnderreporter notices, math-error notices, and the rest of the alphabet soup.
  • Correspondence & field auditsDocument collection, position memos, and direct examiner contact.
  • Appeals & CDP hearingsIndependent Office of Appeals representation when the exam goes sideways.
  • Penalty abatementFirst-time, reasonable cause, and statutory exception requests.
